Course Outline

The workshop is broken down into 8 sessions.
There will be breaks and lunch is provided.

1) Sound

This session is the “cornerstone” on which all other sessions are built. Here we define what sound is, and talk about what it does in our environment.

2) Microphones & Wireless Systems

Topics discussed include types of microphones, applications and uses. We also cover how wireless systems work and the theory behind them.

3) Cables

Cables are the “veins & arteries” of an audio system. As a result, we need to know the differences in the types of cables and their applications.

4) Dynamics & Signal Processing

In this session we demystify compression, limiting and gating. We use real world examples of how to use dynamics.

5) EQ

This session simply helps us understand how to use an EQ properly.

6) Speakers, Amps & Acoustics

In this session we talk about how to understand specifications and how to apply them to system design.

7) Mixers, Gain Staging & Signal Flow

This session shows us how to put the whole system together and have it work properly.

8) Live Stage Session

The final session is the real world application of everything we’ve learned over the past sessions. Utilizing a live band we will apply all of the principles discussed.
